Fears and Barriers of Beginning the Professional Activities of Future Psychologists in the Conditions of Modern Challenges
Abstract
Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of fears and psychological barriers that arise in future psychologists before starting their professional activities under the influence of modern challenges, such as war and military operations in Ukraine, mass psychological traumatization of the population of the state, the rapid development of digital technologies, distance learning, etc. The purpose of the article is to establish the main fears and barriers that can potentially have a negative impact on the beginning of the professional career of future psychologists and to develop practical recommendations for overcoming them. To achieve the goal, the following tasks were set: conducting a theoretical analysis of the scientific literature and an empirical study of the state of the problem and determining the main ways to solve it. The methodological basis of the article is the fundamental provisions of the system-structural approach, the theory of the unity of the psyche, behavior and activity; humanistic-personal approach; the principle of development and its driving forces. During the preparation of the article, certain general scientific methods were used: analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization, and psychological methods: questionnaires, interviews, and conversations. The study was conducted among applicants for a bachelor's degree in specialty 053 "Psychology" at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Law and Psychology of the National Academy of Internal Affairs. A scientific innovation. As a result of the empirical study, the peculiarities of experiencing fears and barriers to starting a professional career by future psychologists in modern conditions were identified, and on this basis, practical recommendations for overcoming them were proposed. Conclusions. The conducted study indicates that the majority (81%) of respondents experience various fears and psychological barriers related to professional self-realization. In order to solve this problem, it is recommended that in the process of studying academic disciplines of a professional orientation during the period of study in higher education institutions, it is necessary to take into account the realities of the professional activity of psychologists, ensure the formation and development of professionally important qualities, skills and abilities of future psychologists, use modern pedagogical innovative interactive technologies, specially developed business games and trainings, and ensure compliance with ethical standards of activity, as well as acmeological principles. The problematic issues raised require further thorough psychological research with a significant increase in the sample and psychodiagnostic methods used.
