Psychological Training of Future Police Officers as a Basis for the Formation of their Professional Readiness
Abstract
Abstract. The article is devoted to the relevant modern issue of establishing the link between the psychological training of future law enforcement officers and their professional readiness. The aim of the study is to analyze the organization of this training system, substantiate its basic principles, and determine its role in developing professional readiness for law enforcement activities. The research employs methods of theoretical and methodological analysis, comparison, and generalization. Based on the reviewed sources, the concept of "the system of psychological training for police officers" is analyzed, and its structure and leading paradigms are defined. The essence of the competence-based approach and its main principles – such as focus on results, modularity, flexibility, and active learning – are identified. It is proven that this training orientation facilitates the formation of psychological qualities that ensure the effective performance of service duties by cadets. The study highlights the content of the activity-based approach and its principles: the unity of psyche and activity, hierarchy, and development through activity. It is argued that this paradigm serves as a basis for transforming psychological knowledge into the professional skills of a future police officer. Furthermore, the essence of the student-centered approach and its principles – subjectivity, partnership, and unity of development – are analyzed as the foundation for professional identity. The scientific novelty of the study lies in substantiating the feasibility of combining competence-based, activity-based, and student-centered approaches, which ensures the integrity of psychological training and bridges the gap between academic knowledge and professional skills. The practical value of the study lies in the possibility of implementing its results into the activities of psychological services within higher education institutions with specific learning conditions.
Keywords: psychological training of cadets; readiness for professional activity; competence-based approach; activity-based approach; personality-oriented approach.
